Staying Cool in the Heat
As we are experiencing severe drought conditions all across our country, the lack of rain and high temperatures are causing a variety of life-threatening challenges. Staying cool in the heat can be most difficult for those who have to work outside. Accordingly, we feel that it is extremely important to remind our families, friends, and co-workers of how dangerous heat illnesses may be and to take the necessary precautions to prevent them.
Recognizing the symptoms of heat stroke, exhaustion, or cramps is crucial and in many cases requires immediate hospital treatment. Preventing these conditions from occurring is the primary goal, not only for people, but for our pets as well. The following link from CBS News provides useful information on taking the heat out of summer, recognizing symptoms, and basic treatment: (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1999/05/25/summer/main48531.shtml
