Where more detail and accuracy than what is provided in a "hexanes plus" analysis is required, our lab performs "extended analyses" on gases and liquids. In this method, the "hexanes plus" fraction is analyzed on a capillary column and flame ionization detector (FID) using a temperature programmed method as outlined in GPA methods 2186 and 2286. An extended analysis lab report includes all of the same information as provided on a standard "hexanes plus" analysis, plus compositional detail of the "hexanes plus" fraction from C6 through C11+ and calculated physical characteristics of the hexanes plus. For liquid samples, a "heptanes plus" option is available.
