BirdDog™ Remote Data Retrieval System

The BirdDog system is Coastal Flow's data retrieval and monitoring service that provides our customers with many cost-effective features and benefits, including:
  • Secure Internet-based access to electronic gas measurement and field data from flow computers and other measurement devices, presented through an informative and very user-friendly interface.
  • Comprehensive alarm functions to alert key staff members on upset conditions, flow rate changes, or potential system outages.

  • Data access restrictions to enable users to view only certain information or installations, and for secure sharing with trading partners and other interest owners.

  • Critical data collection and archiving for downstream data management and auditing.

Easy to access, operate, and manage, the BirdDog system is a simple yet powerful means to obtain measurement data without the cost of building and maintaining a complex SCADA system.  The BirdDog system utilizes the latest generation of communications equipment and technologies to collect data and monitor field operations, including cellular, satellite, radio, and traditional telephony.  Coastal Flow can supply, install, and service all necessary equipment to link the BirdDog system with your meters and other field devices.  Our highly trained and experienced technicians can make implementing the BirdDog system fast and simple, whether that requires retrofitting existing field devices or installing new equipment.  After installation, Coastal Flow provides comprehensive service, maintenance, and routine testing for a single-source solution to all of your needs.

Using the BirdDog system requires no training and Coastal Flow provides all the support you will need, from initial installation to all routine maintenance.  And since the BirdDog system is fully compatible with your existing equipment, your capital investment is preserved without the need to purchase software or sign a long-term contract.

Web-Based Flow & Well Data Reporting

The BirdDog system allows scheduling of routine data retrieval polling and automatic updates to reports and graphs, for subsequent viewing and analysis. Data is collected and logged according to AGA 14.3 and stored in an API Chapter 21.1 compliant format, essential for downstream review, recalculation, volume reporting, and auditing.

Users of the BirdDog system can view their data in customized page layouts.  Data logged from electronic devices or entered by field personnel can be formatted to present your information in the manner that's most efficient, productive, and meaningful for your organization.  Advanced security features permit data to be selectively viewed according to the end-user, specific parameters, and installation, which also permits the sharing of data with entitled third-parties.

BirdDog system reporting includes current flow data for individual meter stations or entire systems, hourly and daily volumes, alarm logs, and other vital data stored in your measurement devices.  A graphing function provides a powerful way to visualize and better evaluate flow rates as well as other variable activities, reports can be printed or downloaded into a standard spreadsheet format, and historical trending is available.  A Demand Poll option allows users to initiate ad hoc polling directly from their Internet-connected browsers to update measurement data at any time.  A daily Morning Report feature is also available to provide users with flowing parameters, prior day and current production data, and rates for each measurement device.

BirdDog Online Reports & Data Views

Current Flow Data Reports – include current flow rate, differential pressure, flowing pressure, flowing temperature, prior day's volume, accumulated volume, and battery voltage, displayed for each device in a station summary; multiple devices can be grouped into systems with an available system summary report.

Hourly Volume Reports – include hourly logs of differential pressure, pressure, temperature, volume, and accumulated volume in tabular as well as graphical formats.

Daily Volume Reports – include daily logs of differential pressure, pressure, temperature, volume, and accumulated volume in tabular as well as graphical formats.

Data Archives – include daily logs of differential pressure, pressure, temperature, volume, accumulated volume, and well data in tabular as well as graphical formats, plus monthly totals for all prior months.

Station Event Logs – include a history of events providing date, time, event type, condition, and status.

Well Data – contained within the Hourly and Daily Volume Reports, as well as Data Archives, this includes peripheral equipment and conditions, such as liquid turbine meters, compressors, tank levels, and wellhead pressures, which are monitored and displayed.

Decline Curve Reports – provide graphical displays of historical trends for all flowing parameters.

Alarms on Exception

The BirdDog system detects alarm conditions and automatically contacts our customers in the event of an emergency condition or out-of-range flow rate change.  Alarm notifications may be sent as text messages to cell phones and pagers, or directly to an e-mail account.  Peripheral equipment and conditions, such as liquid turbine meters, compressors, tank levels, and wellhead pressures, may also be monitored.  The BirdDog system's alarm features are invaluable since they can effectively help to reduce downtime and increase profitability.

Two methods are available to deliver alarms: The BirdDog system can routinely scan collected data for user-defined upset conditions, then sends out alarm messages whenever detected.  And for critical equipment and conditions which warrant an immediate notification, the BirdDog system provides a satellite-based alarming option.

Electronic Gauger Report

Exclusive to the BirdDog system is our Electronic Gauger Report feature through which field personnel can enter data that is not collected by an electronic device, for subsequent Internet-based access and viewing by your company personnel.  With full commercial release in 2010, the Electronic Gauger Report allows data, such as that from chart recorders, non-communicating sensors, and tank gauging, to be collected, accessed, and viewed in the same way as data that is automatically pulled from flow computers and other electronic devices.

BirdDog, the Internet, and You

The BirdDog Remote Data Retrieval System leverages cutting-edge communications technologies, advanced database management, and the breadth of the Internet to provide you with a powerful yet simple means for collecting, analyzing, and viewing widely varied data elements from your remote facilities.  With easy browser-based access and critical alarm notification functionality, you'll find the BirdDog system to be an important productivity tool that can readily add to your bottom-line.
